Me-time, how and where to start? 5 tips!

Me-time is important, and here’s why!

Taking time for yourself and going with the flow is beneficial. It helps you blow off steam, clear your mind, catch your breath, recharge your battery, feel good, and find balance. It’s a moment entirely for yourself. A moment in which you absolutely don’t have to do anything. You get to do what makes you happy without being accountable to anyone. It’s like a mini-break, so to speak. If you don’t take time for yourself now and then, you run the risk of getting stuck over time. Unable to cope with the daily hustle and bustle of your existence. Getting upset or bursting into tears at the slightest provocation, such as when your kids don’t finish their meals, your boss asks you something, or your partner leaves things lying around. Me-time is crucial! You truly need it so that you can face life again with a fresh, rested, and energetic perspective.

Me-time is important, so approach it with the following 5 tips:

What you can do to relax, you can probably think of yourself. However, you might encounter many obstacles before actually achieving some quality me-time. Try to think in terms of solutions rather than impossibilities. That mindset will already take you a long way. Here are some additional tips below to assist you in making time for yourself.

1. Me-time is important and not a luxury

Me-time is crucial; consider taking time for yourself not as a luxury, but as a necessity! Remember that it is essential to feel good and have energy for your work and personal activities day in and day out. You need it, both mentally and physically. It provides peace of mind.

No peace of mind? Due to work pressures, a hectic family life, and countless social obligations? Does it feel like you’re constantly zooming around in a roller coaster? At some point, this will take its toll. You’re tired,… helps your body relax and prevents stress from taking hold.

 2. What made you happy as a child?

If you have no idea how to spend me-time, think about what made you incredibly happy and cheerful as a child. What activity or pastime absorbed you completely, making you forget the world around you? Pick up that hobby again and enjoy it!

3. Learn to let go.

Can’t find time for yourself? Perhaps your life is too full, or you demand too much of yourself. Learn to let go and create space in your schedule. Eliminate commitments you’ve made, delegate tasks, and/or seek help.

4. It doesn’t have to be perfect.

Is it your nature to want to do and organize everything perfectly? At home and at work? Take a step back and realize that not everything has to be perfect. A little less is also good. You’ll find that this gives you time for me-time. The significant advantage of taking time for yourself is that you’ll feel much better and have more energy. And… who knows, you might get more done than you thought.

5. Shake off those feelings of guilt

Feelings of guilt can weigh heavily on you when you want to realize me-time. For example, leaving your partner alone at home, leaving your children with a babysitter, or not completing that one task. Sound familiar, doesn’t it? Listen to it? Then you’ll never get a moment for yourself. Acknowledge those feelings of guilt, but don’t act on them. Allow yourself that free time. Also, realize that everyone benefits when you feel good. The people around you see a mom, dad, employee, friend who is happy and willing and able to do things!
